Economic Development

  • The State of North Carolina has designated a growth zone in the southern part of Mount Airy  which is eligible for enhanced economic incentives to stimulate new investment and job creation. Agrarian Growth Zone
  • The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program permits taxpayers to receive a credit against Federal income taxes for making qualified equity investments in the southern part of Mount Airy. New Market Tax Credits
  • Stewarts Creek, Lovill's Creek, and Ararat River supply the City with an abundant amount of water. The City's two water plants are permitted for 8.5 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of production and currently produce approximately 3.6 MGD with a similar volume of the waste water facility plant which has a maximum flow of 7 MGD.  Mount Airy has the largest open faced granite quarry in the world.
  • Westwood Industrial Business Park and Piedmont Triad West Corporate Park are located in the Piedmont Triad Foreign Trade Zone Number 230 with acreage and City services available.
  • Incentive grants are offered to companies by Surry County and the City of Mount Airy based on net new taxable investments and job creation in the community that pay above average county wage.
