The City of Mount Airy is now accepting applications for the following full time positions:

Police Officer:
ALL applicants are REQUIRED to have a high school diploma or GED and must have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training. Patrol Officer duties include but are not limited to traffic control, crime prevention and assessment, domestic disturbance calls, arrest and process criminal suspects, prepares required reports and community service. Qualified applicants must be 20 years of age or older with no prior criminal record. Qualified applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation and polygraph examination. Persons hired will be subject to pre-employment drug screen and physical. Full time positions will work 4 days a week/12 hour, rotating shifts. Full time positions come complete with benefit package. Resumes are accepted but will not be taken in lieu of a City application. Applications will be taken until December 1, 2010.

Sanitation Collector:
The City of Mt. Airy is currently seeking applicants for the position of Sanitation Collector. An employee in this position performs manual labor involving the collections and disposal of refuse and garbage from commercial and residential areas of the City. Worker walks along a designated route to collect garbage and refuse from curbside, empties collection containers into a loader packer truck and assists in emptying load at the sanitary landfill. Employee may be considered a substitute driver. Worker performs related duties as required. Qualified applicants should have CDL license or be willing to obtain CDL license within 6 months of date of hire. Required: Graduation from high school or the equivalent of a diploma. Applications are available in the Personnel Office located on the first floor of the City Municipal Building.
