Lieutenant J. H. Armbrister ... "Officer Jim"

We can all change the world - one child at a time.

The light is still burning leaving no child behind.

BE A LIGHT ... Sometimes, we think that we don't shine and our efforts are in vain.  Just remember that in the dark, a little light will look as bright as a lighthouse to a lost soul.

No matter what you do, Always Shine.

A joint effort by Mount Airy Police and Mount Airy City Schools to educate and reinforce issues with students concerning drugs, violence, social trends, character development and other current teen lifestyle challenges.

The school year 2003 – 2004 promises to be an exciting and rewarding year with plenty of good news in the D.A.R.E program.  The curriculum has been updated again to keep up with current trends of today’s youth.  New lessons will be taught plus the program is expanding even further.  D.A.R.E. has been taught at the 5th grade level in our City, 2001-2002 school year it was expanded to include the Kindergarten level, last year we expanded to the 7th grade Middle School level and for the 2003-2004 school year it is to be taken to the 9th grade High School level.  All are welcome to visit our classes.  This year, over 230 lessons will be taught in our City Schools by Officer Jim.  This helps put a uniformed officer in our schools serving many different roles; law enforcement officer, law-related educator, problem-solver, and community liaison.  Additional teaching and advising is done concerning crime prevention, substance abuse awareness, mentoring, promoting personal and social responsibility.  Continuing to build upon the respect and understanding between law enforcement and the school communities, assistance is given identifying physical changes in the environment that could reduce crime in and around our schools and help develop school policies that address criminal activity and school safety including terrorist critical incident response training.

Anonymous Tip Information How Crimestoppers Works

Telephone the Crimestopper number, (336) 786-4000. The dispatcher who answers the phone will ask for detailed information you have to offer concerning a crime that has been committed or is to be attempted. You may leave your name and contact number which will remain anonymous except to the Crimestopper Officer, or, you do not need to reveal your identity and will be assigned a number to use to identify yourself on future calls. If the information you give directly helps to solve a case, you can check back or check the newspaper to discover if an arrest has been made. If so, call (336) 786-4000 and give your number, ask to speak to the Crimestopper Officer and request to be reviewed for a possible reward. The Officer will call together the Board which consists of citizens who review the case and decide how beneficial the information given was to solving the case and determine a reward amount to be given. You call back and speak with the Officer after the Board meets and are instructed if a reward is to be given and given instructions to go to a specific local bank, you would then ask for a bank official named by the Officer, you identify yourself to the bank official by using your Crimestopper ID number and at that time you will be given the cash award. The Crimestopper Officer who represents Surry County Crimestoppers is located at the Mount Airy Police Department. The information called in does not have to be only dealing with Mount Airy, if it deals with any other jurisdictions, including in other states, the Officer routes the information to the Department in concerns.
