Garbage
Residential garbage is collected one time per week at the curb only from the city-furnished roll-cart. Carts cannot be at the curb at any time other than the collection day, listed below. Carts must be at the street no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection and must be removed from the street by 7 p.m. Please check the Current Collection Schedule for your garbage pickup day.
All residential trash should be bagged and in the City provided 96-gallon cart.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping Mount Airy clean and attractive.
Brush
The City will collect loose brush cut by the homeowner on Monday of each week. There is no additional charge for brush less than 5 feet in length and less than 3 inches diameter and stacked neatly at the curb. Brush will be collected on Monday of each week. Small amounts of clippings or trimmings may be included in trash cart for curbside collection with regular trash. In the interest of safety please do not place brush in roadway or on sidewalk.

Leaves and Fine Clippings
Leaves and fine clippings must be bagged or boxed and placed in or with cart for regular collection.
Leaf Collection
A leaf machine is used to collect loose leaves raked to the street from October 1 through December 31. All other times leaves must be placed in a tied bag or sealed box, and placed in or with cart for regular collection.
Items not picked up by Sanitation Crews
City crews do not collect paint, building materials, carpet, mattresses, automobile parts, chemicals, or white goods. Placing these items in your cart may result in your trash not being collected.
